Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Kurt Rongey's debut album is much more song-oriented and less experimental than the subsequent ones. However, it already exposes those typical avantgardistic traits that become predominant in his later works. My favorite one out of the three issued so far - so wonderfully melancholic within its strange harmony, so full of haunting beauty and delicious brain food. Favorite track: Lines.

Lines 04:05
Friend in the summer Friend in the spring Taking all the flowers you bring Wine of life Caress your mind Death will find. Sheets of blue on lines of gray Too much time to throw away Error never cross your path And strangeness be the aftermath Many times I think of you In the morning nothing else that I can do. Never can a mortal falter Waiting for a word from you A year, Another fall- ing through, Maybe something I can do Mirror world Escaping fast Wishing I could see the past Or future now, The bluest sea... Longing burns inside of me. Terror find.

Black Wedge 06:41
Pointed accusation Enormous black wedge Directed into the northeast And on the western edge Eyebrows and candy lips (you remember those) Underbelly rolling Suspended curtain Unrolling mass Pouring Travelling with my friend Enormous black wedge It flies on the skyline And on the western edge Eyebrows and candy lips (you remember those) All is moving eastward. Head of God Always friends good and true Eastward Nightshade I must not fall behind Head of God I've passed the wedge Hard, defined identity Dispersed into the atmosphere As with all good friends.

Indefensive emblem, I want nothing more. Keeping every promise, Taking time You can't go away now Head in hand and book on the floor. Silent as the lines touched my hand One dead animal floating in the river was what I saw. It took me a couple days To remember what Now I I'm came here for sure. It's only a matter of time. Terror is not the thing that drives me to you Love is the only thing I ever knew That walk on the beach was all I needed To see things clearly again. It's only a matter of time. Indefensive emblem I want nothing more Knowing this cannot be Wasted time.

Book In Hand 10:59
Find me summer day. Find me wonderland. Life Find in every blade, Walking along the book in hand. Song of anger Song of joy Ever since you were a boy Running lion catch your prey Live to run another day. Noble day awaiting working hand, It's dark upon the hill. Aware of wind and clouds and growing land Green and reaching still. Order in the heart of you who give and take when all is made, Break the soil and let the hard earth live. A cornerstone is laid. The inner strength that you breathe into us Is rewarded by the pain That turns to joy despite how perilous the mercy of the rain A thousand times again one has to trust that order will remain. Song of anger Song of joy Ever since you were a boy Running lion catch your pray Live to run another day. Delicate and moving fast Often do I have to ask How Anyone could see in you Any less than all that's true. Life find. Give me summer day. Give me wonderland. Give Life in every blade, Walking along the book in hand.

about

The Book in Hand CD was recorded in a span of about two years under widely varying circumstances. Track 2, "Jungle" was the first to be composed. It was recorded around August of 1989 on a Tascam 388 8-track deck in my Fort Worth apartment. Finishing touches were put on the title track in July of 1991 on a 16-track at the Royal College of Music electronic studios in London. The original issue included a 36-page magazine-style booklet with the lyrics handwritten atop illustrations that were drafted while in London.

Book in Hand was officially released by Long, Dark Music in November of 1991.
